MILLBRAE – A Burlingame hospital was locked down Monday morning while authorities searched for a quartet of vehicle burglary suspects.
Around 3:35 a.m., automated license plate readers in Millbrae detected a stolen Jeep wanted in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries on the Peninsula, San Mateo County sheriff’s Sgt. Gaby Chaghouri said in a news release. Deputies quickly located the Jeep and deployed spike strips when the suspects tried to drive away.
The strips punctured three of the tires, but the Jeep continued into Burlingame, where it finally came to a stop at the entrance to Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, Chaghouri said.
Authorities arrested two suspects at the scene, but two others ran into a nearby parking structure. The hospital was locked down while authorities searched for them.
Chaghouri said the suspects were eventually arrested with the aid of a San Bruno police drone. No injuries were reported.
A 20-year-old man, two 19-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy — all San Jose residents — were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property and evading, Chaghouri said.
The men were booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City and the boy into Hillcrest Juvenile Hall in San Mateo.
