San Mateo man arrested in connection with hit-and-run that injured pedestrian, killed dog

SAN MATEO — A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that injured a pedestrian and killed a dog Friday morning in San Mateo, police said.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Edison Street, the San Mateo Police Department said in a news release. Officers arrived to find the victim on the ground and bleeding.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Friday night.

Police said the victim was walking his daughter’s dog, Lola, at the time. The dog died at the scene.

Officers scoured the neighborhood for footage of the incident and determined the suspect had been driving a white Toyota Tacoma. The suspect and the truck were later found in San Carlos.

The suspect, a resident of San Mateo, was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of hit-and-run resulting in injury and hit-and-run resulting in property damage.
