SAN JOSE – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Monday morning in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood, police said.

The collision happened around 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Willow Street, San Jose Police Department spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a statement.

A man was walking westbound across Meridian Avenue in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a woman driving a 2016 Honda sedan southbound on Willow Street, Shih said. The driver had the green light and the man had a red light, Shih added.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. On Tuesday, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified him as Christopher Reid, 63, of San Jose.

The death marked the 38th traffic fatality of the year on city streets. Of that number, 22 involved pedestrians. Police had investigated 50 roadway deaths at this time last year.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Shih said.

Anyone with information related to the case can contact Detective Keith Aldinger at 408-277-4654 or 4183@sanjoseca.gov.
