OAKLAND — Two men were shot within a half hour of each other early Saturday morning in different parts of Oakland, according to police.

The first shooting was reported at about 3:12 a.m. in the 500 block of West Grand Avenue. Police, responding to a gunshot detection system alert, found a 45-year-old man who had been shot in the buttocks.

The man told police he’d left a club in the area, when he began experiencing car problems, causing him to stop on West Grand Avenue. He told police that while he was outside the car, someone began shooting at him. He was taken from the scene to a hospital by ambulance.

Police do not have a motive yet for the shooting and have not made any arrest.

The second shooting occurred during what appeared to be an attempted car theft, police said, in the 900 block of Stanford Avenue in North Oakland at about 3:35 a.m.

Police said a 37-year-old man heard noises outside his home and when he looked outside to see what was happening, he saw three men attempting to steal a relative’s car. When the man yelled, one of the men fired several shots at him and hit him in the abdomen. The suspects fled without taking the car.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $7,500 in the Stanford Avenue shooting and up to $5,000 in the West Grand Avenue shooting for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information can call 510-238-3426 or 510-777-8572.
