Support Shoor for
District 6 council seat

I’m writing to support Alex Shoor for San Jose City Council in District 6.

I’ve known Alex for decades as a good friend to my family. Just as importantly, I’ve seen Alex up close as a community leader, housing champion and responsive public servant.

In 2013, while he was working for our county representative, I casually suggested to him the county should do a gun buyback event. I was pleasantly surprised when he took action, working with then-Supervisor Ken Yeager, the district attorney and the Sheriff’s Office to eliminate 1,100 guns from our community in one day.

He is running for the right reasons and with the right vision on key issues like homelessness, public safety and housing affordability.

District 6 needs Alex. Take it from a retiree living here for decades: Let’s move ahead with a fresh approach. Alex is our best step forward.

Innocents of Gaza
are lacking a voice

Political expediency possesses its own volition, like gravity. Rampant anti-Black police brutality dictated George Floyd’s death. Incarcerating nearly 300,000 Japanese Americans. Dropping a second atomic bomb. All are examples of expediency.

Denying food, electricity and water to a people fulfills components of genocide. The suffering and deaths of innocent civilians become intentional murder in violation of the Geneva Convention, taken from Vladimir Putin’s playbook. Benjamin Netanyahu, embroiled in his own moral and criminal battles, and seeking to undermine Israel’s judiciary, is hardly the ideal arbiter of truth or justice.

Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye leaves both people blind.” A Peter, Paul and Mary song pleads, “When will they ever learn?” Indigenous people’s genocide, Guernica, Dresden, My Lai, and now Gaza. Who will speak for the innocent of Gaza?
