Chase Center is trying something new this December, when it’ll be welcoming two warriors competing in something other than a basketball game.

For the first time ever, boxing is coming to Chase Center, it was announced Tuesday morning.

Mark your calendars for Dec. 9, when 24-year-old Bay Area native Devin Haney (30-0, 15 knockouts) will be moving up a weight class to take on 34-year-old Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 knockouts) in a matchup that is already creating headlines.

Haney was born in San Francisco but grew up in Oakland until he was 14 and his family moved to Las Vegas. He quickly found fame in the boxing world at age 20 in 2019, when he became the youngest person in the sport to become a world champion.

He’s now undefeated as a professional and is moving from lightweight to super lightweight to face Prograis, the current WBC World Super Lightweight champion who isn’t particularly intimidated by his new opponent.

“Physically, I just think that I’m too much [for Haney], that’s all,” he told Fight Club TV last week. “Devin has 30 fights with 15 knockouts, so that means that he can’t crack an egg.

“I have 30 fights with 24 knockouts, and I have been putting people to sleep. I just think that I am superior.”

Prograis told Fight Hype that he respects Haney for moving up a weight class, but he still expects to whoop him.

“I am going to dominate him,” he said. “I am training for domination. It sounds bad, but I want to hurt Devin.”

Haney was arrested on a felony weapons charge in Los Angeles in July. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and released on a $35,000 bond. In August, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office told ESPN that it declined to proceed with the case “due to insufficient evidence.”

His fight with Prograis will be broadcast live on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
