Woman injured in East Bay freeway shooting Monday

The CHP is also investigating two non-injury shootings last week on East Bay freeways

SAN PABLO — A woman was injured by shattered glass Monday afternoon after someone shot at her vehicle while she drove on Interstate 80, the California Highway Patrol said.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. Monday on westbound I-80 near San Pablo Dam Road, which is near the Richmond border, authorities said.

Someone presumably in another vehicle shot at the victim’s vehicle. The woman was able to drive to a hospital where she was treated and released for her injuries, authorities said. .

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No suspect information was released and no arrests were announced.

The westbound lanes of the freeway were closed for some 20 minutes starting about 4:20 p.m. Monday while investigators searched for evidence.

The CHP is also investigating two non-injury East Bay freeway shootings from last week.

About 8 p.m. Friday, a vehicle driven by a man on eastbound Interstate 80 between Ashby and University avenues in Berkeley was hit by at least one bullet. The man thought it was a tire-related issue and drove to his home where he saw his vehicle had been hit by gunfire, the CHP said.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests were announced.

The other shooting happened about 11:25 p.m. Thursday on eastbound Interstate 580 near Seminary Avenue in Oakland.

CHP officers responded to a report of a shooting, but could not find a victim, vehicle or suspects. They did locate numerous shell casings on the onramp.
