OAKLAND — The city reached 100 confirmed homicides Friday night with an East Oakland shooting that left a 30-year-old man dead and two other men wounded, one of whom was in grave condition, authorities said.

The name of the man killed has not yet been released.  Police said he was an Oakland resident who lived in the area of the shooting.

Police are trying to confirm the name of the man in grave condition at a hospital.  The other victim, a 32-year-old man, was treated and released at a hospital.

The shooting happened about 10:36 p.m. Friday outside in the 2500 block of 34th Avenue.

Police said the three men knew each other and were hanging out when they were confronted by at least one other man who began shooting at them.

The 30-year-old man died at the scene and the others were taken to hospitals.

Investigators are trying to confirm a motive for the shooting and determine if all the men were the intended targets.  No suspect information was released and no arrests have been made.

The fatal shooting means that for the fourth year in a row, the city will finish with 100 or more homicides.

Last year at this time the city had recorded 104 homicides, with the final tally being 122.  In 2021 the city had 134 homicides and in 2020 the toll was 109.  In 2019 there were 78 homicides in the city, the seventh consecutive year there were less than 100 killings.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $20,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
