Emily DeRuy

Emily DeRuy is the Bay Area News Group's housing and economy editor overseeing coverage for The Mercury News and East Bay Times. Prior to that, she covered COVID, politics, housing and the city of San Jose. Earlier in her career she wrote about education for The Atlantic in Washington, D.C. She graduated from UC San Diego with a BA degree in political science with a minor in communication. She also holds a MA degree in journalism from Stanford University. Emily was a USC Center for Health Journalism fellow in 2021 and a Renaissance Journalism Equity Reporting Project fellow in 2014.
