Cecily Burt

Cecily Burt is a regional focus editor for the Bay Area News Group who edits reporters who cover regional issues including science, environment, transportation, politics and education for The Mercury News and East Bay Times. She was previously the assistant metro editor for the East Bay Times and a reporter for the Oakland Tribune for many years, covering politics, development, environment, crime, arts and general assignments. She was a member of the team that was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news for coverage of Oakland's fatal "Ghost Ship" fire. Cecily was also a member of the award-winning Chauncey Bailey Project team that investigated the murder of Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey. She is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a BA degree in journalism.
