What is a X5? The X5 is a midsize luxury sport utility vehicle built in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and is sold in North America by BMW. The X5 is packed with features to satisfy your love of adventure, with expansive cargo space, a comfortable interior and plenty of towing ability. The X5 has a starting price of only $65,200, plus options.

The new 2024 BMW X5 boasts smoother, linear lines throughout the body and moldings. The front end has been completely restyled with two arrow shaped LED bars in the headlights and a pair of tall gills below them. The new updates feature a sleek design; with exterior styling that give it a more aggressive look. The X5 has a larger, more prominent grille, as well as new headlights and taillights, with a modern flair.

And what does the M Competition option add to the mix? The M Competition edition includes impressive standard features, including a 617 HP engine, an M Sport Exhaust System, special design elements, M Shadowline Lights and M Track Mode. It also has 28 high end options that make the X5 M50 Competition a high performance SUV that can hang with the Big Boys on the race track, at the country club, or on the autobahn in Germany.

If you’re looking for a midsize luxury SUV you have lots of choices.  Every brand, from Audi to Cadillac to Maserati offers one. Thanks to a masterful blend of power, precision, luxury and performance, the 2024 BMW X5 M50 is the leader in the class.

The 2024 BMW X5 M50 Competition embraces action with a bold exterior aesthetic, balanced by crafted interior elements for class and comfort. A new M kidney grille design, with horizontal double bars and large front air intakes, places performance at the forefront of design. The X5 M50 is one of the fastest SUV’s for sale in all of America.

This week BMW sent me a 2024 BMW X5 M50 Competition SUV to test drive and review. The base price for this model is $122,300. The options on the test SUV are: the metallic paint for $5,000, the leather grey interior for $3,500, the executive package for $3,100, the M compound brake pads with gloss black brake calipers for $650, the Bowers & Wilkins sound system for $3,400 and the M drivers package for $2,500. The MSRP manufacture suggested retail price, including the $995 delivery charge is: $141,445.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $159,126. At near $160 Large you’re getting a very special edition BMW that has 617 HP horsepower, goes from 0 to 60 in only 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 177 miles per hour. It is very, very, very fast.

Power is generated from a 4.4L liter BMW M twin turbo V/8 engine force feeding 32 valves with variable valve control,  high precision direct fuel injection, eBoost and a 48 volt mild hybrid system. This combo makes 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Every X5 M Competition utilizes an M Sport 8 speed automatic transmission with drive logic and launch control, routed into a variable M tuned all wheel drive (AWD) traction xDrive control system, with dynamic stability and dynamic traction controls.

Handling and braking are enhanced by M compound 4 wheel ventilated anti-lock disc brakes with cross drilled rotors and dynamic brake control, plus an adaptive M active suspension with roll stabilization going into an M sport performance differential. This ultra performance driveline is how the M50 can go 177 MPH, and still stop on a dime.

BMW has turned up the heat on its 2024 X5 M50 Competition SUV, which offers a massively powerful twin turbo V/8 engine and a lot of go fast goodies that are sure to delight all drivers. The X5 M50’s balanced handling reminds me of BMW’s great sport sedans, and with its big SUV body it adds in plenty of space, practicality and usefulness.

And I have to mention the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound audio system with a 1500 watt amplifier, powering 20 speakers. The sound level is totally distortion free, and incredibly loud. It’s just perfect for an over the top Ultra Level High Performance SUV.
