What is a Velar? The Range Rover Velar is a midsize luxury SUV built in Solihull, U.K, and sold worldwide by Land Rover. The Velar is the more affordable Range Rover and the Dynamic SE trim starts at only $63,600 with the P250 engine and $70,600 with the P400 engine. The Velar competes directly with the BMW X5 and Mercedes Benz GLE class SUV’s, and it’s a very nicely equipped luxury performance SUV for a great price.

The 2024 Range Rover Velar lineup is slightly different to previous years. Now with 4 available trims, the 2024 Range Rover Velar offers the Dynamic S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE models, while introducing the Range Rover Velar Autobiography Edition.  Each new model is unique as they combine contemporary luxury with celebrated refinement.

The updates on the exterior of the new Velar are cutting edge and useful as they include: new front and rear lights with jewel like construction, a restyled front grille, a new rear bumper and new colors, such as Metallic Varesine Blue and Metallic Zadar Gray.

This week Land Rover sent me a 2024 Range Rover Velar Dynamic SE to test drive and review. This Dynamic SE model with the P400 driveline starts with a base window sticker price of $70,600. The options are: the cold climate package for $1,175, the 21″ dark grey alloy wheels for $2,600, the HUD display for $1,000, special paint for $950, the black painted roof for $800, the black exterior trim package for $750, the shadow grey ash veneer interior trim package for $460, the wheel protection package for $220, the emergency pack for $75 and the handover pack for $28. The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,275 destination and delivery charge, is: $79,933.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $89,925. At just under $90 Grand this Range Rover Velar SUV is near the top of the luxury class, and very close to the Ultra Luxury class, which starts at $100,000, and goes up and over $250,000 today.

P400 power comes from a 3.0L liter turbocharged 6 cylinder gas engine with 395 horsepower (HP) and 405 lb-ft of torque, bolted to an 8 speed automatic transmission with satin chrome paddle shifters. It is then routed into an all wheel drive (AWD) traction control system that includes intelligent driveline dynamics and terrain response, with selectable on road and off road driving modes. Stability is enhanced with electric power steering, hill launch assist, low traction launch, hill decent control, adaptive dynamics and torque vectoring by automatic braking. The P400 has the most positive terrain control available.

Comfort and convenience starts with: perforated gained leather seats, a power tailgate, a sliding panoramic sunroof, heated power front seats with driver memory and lumbar support, a power adjustable leather wrapped and heated steering wheel, 40-20-40 split fold down rear seats, keyless entry, push button start, ambient lighting, an 11.4″ center stack touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SiriusXM radio, and a Meridian premium sound system with a 400 watt amplifier powering 14 speakers and a dual-channel subwoofer. Your personal mixed tapes never sounded so good.

Range Rovers are built to go thru the desert and over the mountains.  Most are equipped with the cold climate package. This option pack includes: a heated windshield, powered and heated headlight washers, heated or cooled front seats and heated rear seats. It costs big bucks to look cool and ride in style in a new 2024 Range Rover Velar.

The Range Rover Dynamic SE redesign keeps the engine options exactly as they were in 2023, and the 2024 Velar receives the all new 8 speed automatic transmission. You will enjoy smoother and more satisfying shifts, in the hills of San Francisco, in Marin, or on 17 Mile Drive.  All wheel drive (AWD) is standard equipment on all models and trims.

The Velar majors on style and it’s a very useful SUV. It’s roomy enough for a family, capable of going off road and towing a trailer. As rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes just look like taller versions of their cars. A Range Rover Velar is a very distinctive SUV.
